2331 – Pink Floyd – The Final Cut (1983)

Escrita por Roger Waters, “The Final Cut” foi gravada entre julho de 1982 e novembro de 1982 e lançada como faixa-título do álbum The Final Cut em 21 de março de 1983. A faixa faz parte do álbum The Final Cut, o décimo segundo álbum de estúdio do Pink Floyd. A produção ficou por conta de Roger Waters, James Guthrie e Michael Kamen. Diferente de muitas músicas do Pink Floyd, “The Final Cut” é uma das composições mais pessoais e políticas de Roger Waters. Na letra, ele faz uma dura crítica à guerra, ao governo britânico (especialmente a Margaret Thatcher e à Guerra das Malvinas) e ao desperdício de vidas de jovens soldados. Waters compara a geração da Segunda Guerra Mundial (seu pai morreu na guerra) com a geração dos anos 80, questionando se realmente aprendemos alguma coisa com o passado. O título “The Final Cut” refere-se tanto à última tomada de um filme quanto ao “corte final” da vida de um soldado. Musicalmente, a faixa tem um arranjo orquestral dramático e cinematográfico, com destaque para as cordas, metais e o piano melancólico. A voz de Roger Waters está carregada de raiva, tristeza e ironia, especialmente no refrão poderoso. A canção não teve regravações de grande peso, mas é considerada por muitos fãs uma das composições mais honestas e emocionantes de Roger Waters.
