Escrita por Gary Kemp, True foi gravada em 1982 e lançada primeiro no álbum True, o terceiro álbum de estúdio da banda, em 4 de março de 1983. Foi lançada como single em 15 de abril de 1983. A produção ficou por conta de Tony Swain, Steve Jolley e Spandau Ballet. True é uma das baladas soul mais bonitas e românticas dos anos 80. Na letra Gary Kemp declara um amor profundo e sincero, dizendo que tudo o que ele diz é verdade e que a pessoa amada é tudo para ele. É uma canção delicada, emotiva e cheia de devoção. Musicalmente a faixa tem um arranjo sofisticado com influência soul e funk. Tem saxofone marcante, baixo groovy, piano elegante e a voz suave e apaixonada de Tony Hadley, criando um clima romântico e sofisticado.
