Escrita por Paul McCartney, “Pipes of Peace” foi gravada em 1983 e lançada primeiro no álbum Pipes of Peace, o quarto álbum de estúdio solo de Paul McCartney, em 31 de outubro de 1983. Foi lançada como single depois, em dezembro de 1983, com “So Bad” no lado B. A produção ficou por conta de George Martin. “Pipes of Peace” é uma balada anti-guerra com forte mensagem de paz e reconciliação. A letra fala sobre o desejo de paz (“Pipes of peace will fill the air”), inspirada no Natal de 1914 durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, quando soldados inimigos pararam de lutar por um breve momento. É uma das músicas mais emocionais e esperançosas de Paul nos anos 80. Musicalmente, a faixa tem um arranjo orquestral bonito, com piano, cordas, vocais harmonizados e a voz calorosa de Paul McCartney.
