Escrita por Sting, foi gravada em fevereiro de 1979 no Surray Sound Studios e lançada em 7 de setembro de 1979 no compacto que tinha Landlord como Lado B. Saiu também no segundo disco da banda, Regatta de Blanc, em 5 de outubro de 1979. Foi produzida por Nigel Gray e The Police. Fala de um náufrago em uma ilha que manda uma mensagem em uma garrafa procurando amor. Depois de um ano sem receber resposta, ele entra em desespero, sabendo que vai ficar sozinho pra sempre. No dia seguinte, no entanto, chega um bilhão de garrafas e ele entende que existem mais pessoas solitárias como ele. A revista Rolling Stone disse que ela era a número 65 da sua lista das 100 greatest guitar songs of all time. Foi o primeiro número 1 da banda no Reino Unido, mas só chegou ao número 74 nos Estados Unidos, no Billboard Hot 100. Chegou ao número 1 na Irlanda. Número 2 no Canadá e Holanda. Chegou ao número 5 na Austrália e Bélgica. Número 11 na Nova Zelandia, número 20 na Suécia, número 21 na Itália, número 24 na Áustria e número 35 na Alemanha Ocidental. Andy Summers disse que é a melhor música do Police. Sting tocou baixo e cantou. Stewart Copeland tocou bateria e percussão e Andy Summers tocou guitarra.
