270 – Gerry and The Pacemakers – I like it (1963)

Escrita por Mitch Murray, o mesmo que escreveu outro hit de Gerry and The Pacemakers chamada How do you do it. Foi gravada em 24 de abril de 1963 e teve George Martin como produtor. Foi lançada em maio de 1963 em um compacto simples que tinha a música It’s happened to me como Lado B.

O compacto de I like it foi o segundo compacto da banda. I like it chegou ao número 1 nos charts britânicos em 22 de junho de 1963, onde ficou nessa posição por quatro semanas. Chegou ao número 17 nos charts pop americanos em 1964. 

Em 1978, The Rezillos fizeram uma versão punk de I like it. Em 1980, o Depeche Mode tocou I like it ao vivo nos seus shows.

269 – The Beatles – Little child (1963)

Escrita por John Lennon e Paul McCartney, foi gravada em 11 e 12 de setembro e 3 de outubro de 1963. Foi lançada no álbum With The Beatles. Foi escrita inicialmente pra Ringo cantar, mas Ringo insistiu em cantar I wanna be your man e sua vontade foi feita. 

Paul admitiu que Little child era uma música pra completar o álbum e que tirou a frase I’m so sad and lonely” da canção “Whistle my love”, de um cantor britânico de baladas e ator chamado Elton Hayes. 

Foi gravada em três diferentes sessões. A primeira, em 11 de setembro de 1963, os Beatles gravaram dois takes dela. Voltaram no dia 12 e gravaram 16 takes de Little child, incluindo o overdub do piano de Paul McCartney e da Gaita de John Lennon. Ainda voltariam no dia 3 de outubro pra gravar três takes mais. 

John cantou, tocou guitarra rítmica e gaita. Paul cantou, tocou baixo e piano. George Harrison tocou guitarra solo e Ringo tocou bateria na gravação. 

Wreckless Eric gravou uma versão de Little child com James Nicholls em 2013.

Escrita por Otis Blackwell e Winfield Scott, foi gravada em 22 de setembro de 1962, no Radio Recorders Studio, em Hollywood, California. O Take lançado foi o número 5, enquanto que o take lançado no filme foi o número 1.

Foi lançada em 29 de janeiro de 1963, num compacto simples que tinha They remind me too much of you, no Lado B. Foi lançada no LP It Happened at the world’s fair, de abril de 1963. 

Chegou ao número 11 dos charts pop americanos. Foi o primeiro disco de Elvis a não entrar no TOP 10 dos charts pop americanos desde 1956.

267 – The Dave Clark Five – Glad all over (1963)

Escrita por Dave Clark e Mike Smith, foi lançada em novembro de 1963, por The Dave Clark Five, em um compacto simples que tinha I know you como Lado B. Em janeiro de 1964, se tornou o primeiro hit britanico do grupo, chegando ao número 1 dos charts britânicos. Isso na época dos Beatles. Em abril de 1964, chegaram ao número 6 dos charts americanos, se transformando no primeiro artista da British Invasion nos Estados Unidos a ter um hit que não os Beatles.

Foi também número 1 na Irlanda, número 3 na Austrália e número 2 no Canadá. Número 4 na Holanda e número 16 na Alemanha. 

Em 1993, Glad All Over foi relançado no Reino Unido e chegou ao número 37 dos charts britânicos. 

O time de Futebol Crystal Palace Football Club adotou a canção como hino nos 1960s. Em 10 de fevereiro de 1968, The Dave Clark Five tocou a canção ao vivo na casa do Crystal Palace, o Selhurst Parl. Outros times ingleses como Blackpool, Rotherham United, Port Vale and Swindon Town também usam a canção quando marcam gols. 

Nos anos 60s, a banda peruana fez um cover em espanhol chamado Amarrado. O grupo australiano Hush gravou uma versão em 1974. Suzi Quatro gravou em 1980. Recentemente Bon Jovi tem aberto seus shows tocando Glad all over. Pet Shop Boys gravou uma versão em 2010.

266 – The Beatles – Don’t bother me (1963)

Escrita por George Harrison, foi gravada em 11 e 12 de setembro de 1963 e lançada em 22 de novembro e 1963 no disco With The Beatles. Trata-se da primeira composição de George Harrison que apareceu em um disco dos Beatles. 

George escreveu Don’t bother me enquanto estava doente em um quarto de hotel em Bournemouth, Inglaterra, onde os Beatles estavam tocando alguns shows de verão em 1963. Ele considerou um exercício, pra ver se ele podia compor uma canção ou não. Depois ele diria que essa música mostrou a ele mesmo que se ele continuasse a escrever, um dia ele poderia então escrever alguma coisa boa. 

Antes dessa, Harrison já havia composto duas músicas. Uma chamada In spite of all the danger, numa parceria com Paul McCartney e Cry for a shadow, numa parceria com John Lennon. Ambas foram gravadas pelos Beatles mas nenhuma foi lançada oficialmente pela banda até 1995, no álbum Anthology 1. 

Don’t bother me é considerada por muitos e por ele mesmo, a sua primeira composição. George não teria outra canção escolhida até 1965, no álbum Help!, onde teve duas canções. A primeira foi I need you e a segunda foi You like me too much. Ele faria em 1964 uma canção chamada You know what to do, mas não foi lançada naquele tempo. 

O mau humor da letra, que dizia “So go away, leave me alone, don’t bother me”, não era usado pelos Beatles naquela época, mas se tornou uma característica de George Harrison. A canção tem um som carregado com seu vocal double tracked, guitarras reverbed, e uma bateria ativa. A percussão elaborada empresta à canção um ritmo latino acentuado pelas suas paradinhas. 

Logo após a gravação, George Harrison foi aos Estados Unidos, foi visitar a irmã dele em Benton, Illinois, se tornando assim o primeiro Beatle a pisar em solo americano. George Harrison cantou em double track e tocou guitarra solo. John tocou guitarra rítmica e pandeiros. Paul tocou baixo e claves. Ringo tocou bateria e Bongôs. 

Don’t bother me apareceu no filme A hard day’s night, durante a cena onde os Beatles dançam numa noite enquanto o avô de Paul McCartney joga em outro lugar. 

Gregory Phillips gravou Don’t bother me, se tornando a primeira pessoa a gravar um cover de Don’t bother me. Luis Alberto Spinetta gravou-a em 2002. Kamila Thompson gravou sua versão em 2011.
