Escrita por David Bowie, foi gravada entre janeiro e agosto de 1974, no Olympic Studio em Londres e no Sigma Sound Studio em Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Estados Unidos. Foi produzida por David Bowie, Toni Visconti e Harry Maslin. Toni Visconti faria os arranjos de cordas. Foi lançada em 7 de março de 1975 no disco Young Americans. Sairia depois em compacto, com Golden years como Lado A. Bowie disse que era uma canção real de amor, mas não identificou à pessoa homenageada. O sax alto tocado por David Sanborn fez a introdução ao terceiro verso. O backing vocal tem Luther Vandross com 24 anos, no início de sua carreira. David Bowie quis que a cantora escocesa Lulu gravasse também essa canção e foram pra New York City. Nessa viagem Bowie conheceu o guitarrista Calor Alomar, um porto-riquenho que viria a trabalhar muito com Bowie. David Bowie cantou, Carlos Alomar tocou guitarra ritmica. Mike Garson tocou piano. David Sanborn tocou sax alto. Willie Weeks tocou baixo. Andy Newmark tocou bateria. Larry Washington e Pablo Rosario tocaram congas. Luuther Vandross, Ava Cherry, Robin Clark, Diane Sumler e Anthony Hinton fizeram backing vocals.
