Escrita por Robert Lamm, foi gravada em seembro de 1971 e lançada em 10 de julho de 1972 no disco Chicago V e três dias depois no compacto que tinha Alma Mater como Lado B. Chegou ao número 3 nos charts pop americanos. Vendeu mais de um milhão de cópias somente nos Estados Unidos na época. Chegou também ao número 2 no Canadá.

Lamm compôs a música após passar o dia de 4 de julho de 1970 no Central Park em Nova York.

Rober Lamm cantou e tocou piano. Peter Cetera cantou o refrão, fez backing vocals e tocou baixo. Terry Kath tocou guitarra. Lee Loughnane tocou trompete. James Pankow tocou trombone. Walter Parazaider tocou sax alto. Danny Seraphine tocou bateria.
