John Lennon, mas creditada à dupla Lennon/McCartney, foi gravada em
21 e 22 de outubro de 1965 e lançada em 3 de dezembro de 1965 no
disco Rubber Soul.
É uma das
primeira canções dos Beatles que não é relacionada à romance ou
amor e marca uma virada de John sobre os temas das canções, mais
filosoficamente. Quando lançado em compacto, em fevereiro de 1966,
chegou ao numero 1 no Canadá e Austrália e numero 3 nos charts pop
americanos.
Nowhere man
aparece no filme Yellow Submarine, onde os Beatles cantam sobre o
personagem Jeremy Hillary Boob, depois de encontrá-lo na Nowhere
Land. John e George tocam uma identica Fender Stratoscaster, sendo
que John toca solo nos versos e George solo no solo.
John disse
que escreveu Nowhere man sobre ele mesmo, depois de tentar e tentar
por quase cinco horas, compor outra música pro Rubber Soul. E quando
se deitou cansado, Nowhere man veio de uma vez só, letra e música.
Paul disse que começou a se preocupar com John depois que ele
escreveu essa canção.
John cantou,
tocou violão e guitarra solo nos versos. Paul tocou baixo e fez
backing vocal. George Harrison tocou guitarra solo no solo e fez
backing vocal. Ringo tocou bateria.
Foi
regravada pelos Carpenters em 1967, Jeff Lyne em 1976, Smashing
Pumpkins, Chris While, entre outros.
