Mick Jagger e Keith Richards, foi gravada entre 6 e 9 de março de
1966 e lançada em 15 de abril de 1966 no disco Aftermath. Apesar de
nunca ter sido lançada em compacto, é uma das canção mais
populares da banda nesse período.
Foi durante
a apresentação dessa canção no Altamont Free Concert, em 1969,
que os Hells Angles, que estavam trabalhando de segurança da banda,
deram uma facada em Meredith Hunter e o mataram após ele ter puxado
uma arma. Na turnê de 1981-1982, eles abriam os shows com Under my
thumb.
A letra
trata de um exame sobre uma briga de poder, na qual a letra celebra o
sucesso de finalmente ter ganho o controle sobre uma mulher que antes
era dominante. Ele compara a mulher a um animal de estimação.
Camille Paglia disse que Under my thumb marcou o começo da briga
dela com as feministas mais radicais.
