377 – Elvis Presley – Little Egypt (1964)

Escrita pela dupla campeã Jerry Leiber e Mike Stoller, foi incialmente lançada pelos Coasters em 1961 como compacto e lançada em 1962 no álbum Coast Along with the Coasters. Na versão deles, ficaram no número 16 nos charts de R&B e número 23 nos charts pop americanos em 1961.

Foi regravada por Elvis Presley em 1964 e é essa versão que temos aqui na nossa lista. Depois foi também foi regravada por Cher.

Escrita por Billy Jackson e Jimmy Wisner e foi lançada originalmente em 1963 pelos Orlons. Foi o lado B do compacto que tinha Bom-Doo-Wah como Lado A. Chegou ao número 55 dos charts americanos. 

A versão que escolhemos foi a dos Searchers, lançada em abril de 1964 em um compacto que tinha I pretend I’m with you no lado B e que foi ao número 1 dos charts britânicos e irlandeses. Chegou também ao número 4 na Dinamarca.

375 – Peter and Gordon – Nobody I know (1964)

Escrita por Paul McCartney pro seu cunhado Peter, mas foi creditada à dupla Lennon/McCartney. Foi gravada em abril de 1964 no Abbey Road Studios. Depois do sucesso número 1 com A world without love, Paul escreveu entao essa música pra tentar dar sequencia. Essa canção chegou ao número 10 no Reino Unido e número 12 nos Estados Unidos, o que ainda é grande coisa. 

Foi lançada em 19 de maio de 1964 em um compacto que tinha You don’t have to tell me no Lado B. Foi gravada em francês por Petula Clark em 1965 sob o título de Partir, il nous faut.

• Fala sobre a história de Ira Hayes, um dos seis marines que levantaram a bandeira americana no Monte Suribachi, na batalha de Iwo Jima, na Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Escrita por Jackie DeShannon e originalmente lançada por ela em 1963, foi regravada por muitos artistas, entre eles The Searchers, que é a versão que escolhemos pra nossa lista. A letra é uma tentativa de detalhar as emoções do cantor que são sentidas quando da presença da pessoa que ele ou ela ama. Tem também uma expressao de frustracao do cantor quando ele ou ela não conseguem dizer isso pra pessoa que ele ou ela ama. 

A versão de DeShannon foi lançada em 23 de novembro de 1963 como lado B de um compacto que tinha Till you say you’ll be mine no Lado A. Chegou ao número 99 nos charts pop americanos.

Em 2004 Agnetha Fältskog gravou sua versão. Chegou ao número 11 na Suécia e 34 no Reino Unido.
