2035 – John Lennon – I'm losing you (1980)

Yoko estava em New York City. John cantou e tocou guitarra ritmica. Earl Slick e Hugh McCracken tocaram guitarra solo. Tony Levin tocou baixo. George Small tocou teclado. Andy Newmark tocou bateria e Arthur Jenkins tocou percussão.

A letra:

Here in some stranger's room
Late in the afternoon
What am I doing here at all?
Ain't no doubt about it
I'm losing you
I'm losing you

Somehow the wires have crossed
Communication's lost
Can't even get you on the telephone
Just got to shout about it
I'm losing you
I'm losing you

Well, here in the valley of indecision
I don't know what to do
I feel you slipping away
I feel you slipping away
I'm losing you
I'm losing you

Well now you say you're not getting enough
But I remind you of all that bad, bad, bad stuff
So what the hell am I supposed to do?
Just put a band-aid on it?
And stop the bleeding now
Stop the bleeding now
Well...

I'm losing you
I'm losing you

Well, well, well
I know I hurt you then
But hell, that was way back when
Well, do you still have to carry that cross? (Drop it!)
Don't wanna hear about it
I'm losing you
I'm losing you

Don't wanna lose you now
Well...
No, no, no, no...

A letra:

Well, now take a look at that I made a castle in the sand
Saying "This is where it's at", you couldn't understand now
If I realized that the chances were slim
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in?

Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live on solid rock
Wanna give, I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid rock

Well, I'm sick of potential, I'm sick of vanity now
I'm sticking to essential reality now
I don't know what's worse, try to make a silk purse
Living an illusion, in confusion

Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live, I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid rock

You own a house of cards, never built for shock
You could blow it down in any kind of weather
Now you take two solid rocks, two solid blocks
You know they're gonna stick
Yeah, they're gonna stick together
Oh-oh-oh

Yeah, because the heart that you break
That's the one that you rely on
The bed that you make
That's the one you gotta lie on
When you point your finger 'cause your plan fell through
You got three more fingers pointing back at you yeah

Gonna live on solid rock
I'm gonna live on solid rock
I wanna give, I don't wanna feel blocked
I'm gonna live on solid

Rock, rock, solid rock
Rock, rock, solid rock
I wanna give, I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid

Rock, rock, solid rock
Rock, rock, solid rock
I wanna give, I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid, solid, solid, solid rock
Solid rock, rock
Solid rock, rock

A letra:

I come from down in the valley
Where, mister, when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
When she was just seventeen
We drive out of this valley
Down to where the fields were green
We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh, down to the river we'd ride

Then I got Mary pregnant
And man, that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday
I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
And the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisle
No flowers, no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh, down to the river we did ride
Yeah, yeah

I got a job working construction
For the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work
On account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care

But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet, down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
They haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
That sends me down to the river
Though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
My baby and I
Oh, down to the river we ride-ide

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

The winter is the best time of them all
Winter is the best of all

A letra:

People say I'm crazy
Doin' what I'm doin'
Well, they give me all kinds of warnings
To save me from ruin

When I say that I'm okay
Well, they look at me kinda strange
Surely you're not happy now
You no longer play the game

People say I'm lazy
Dreamin' my life away
Well, they give me all kinds of advice
Designed to enlighten me

When I tell them that I'm doin' fine
Watchin' shadows on the wall
Don't you miss the big time, boy?
You're no longer on the ball

I'm just sittin' here watchin' the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer ridin' on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

People askin' questions
Lost in confusion
Well, I tell them there's no problem
Only solutions

Well, they shake their heads
And they look at me as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry
I'm just sittin' here doin' time

I'm just sittin' here watchin' the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer ridin' on the merry-go-rounds
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go
I just had to let it go

A letra:

The sky is crying, the streets are full of tears
Rain come down, wash away my fears
And all this writing on the wall
Oh, I can read between the lines

Rain come down, forgive this dirty town
Rain come down, and give this dirty town
A drink of water, a drink of wine

If I been hard on you, I never chose to be
I never wanted no one else
I tried my best to be somebody you'd be close to
Hand in hand like lovers are supposed to

As you'd sleep, I'd think my heart would break in two
I'd kiss your cheek, I'd stop myself from waking you
But in the dark you'd speak my name
You'd say, "Baby what's wrong?"

Oh, here I am baby, I'm coming back for more
I'm like a wave that's got to roll into the shore
Yes, and if my love's in vain, how come my love is so strong?

If I been hard on you, I never chose to be
I never wanted no one else
And I tried my best to be somebody you'd be close to
Hand in hand like lovers are supposed to
Supposed to be

Now you and me go parallel together and apart
And you keep your perfect distance and it's tearing at my heart
Did you never feel the distance
You never tried to cross no line

'Cause it's another dirty river and another dirty scar
And I don't know who's kissing you and I don't know where you are
So far from home, don't you think of me some time

If I been hard on you, I never chose to be
I never wanted no one else
I tried my best to be somebody you'd be close to
Hand in hand like lovers are supposed to

Well, sky is crying, see the streets are full of tears
Rain come down, wash away my fears
And all this writing on the wall
Oh, I can read between the lines

A letra:

Moonlight on the water,
Sun light on my face,
You and me together,
We are in our place,
The gods are in the heavens,
The angels treat us well,
The oracle has spoken,
We cast the (perfect) spell,

Now it begins - let it begin,
Cleanup Time,
(Show those mothers how to do it),

The queen is in the counting home,
Counting out the money,
The king is in the kitchen,
Making bread and honey,
No friends and yet no enemies,
Absolutely free,
No rats aboard the magic ship,
Of (perfect) harmony,

Now it begins,
Cleanup Time,
(Show those mothers how to do it),

However, far we travel,
Wherever we may roam,
The centre of the circle,
Will always be our home,

The gods are in the heavens,
The angels treat us well,
The oracle has spoken,
We cast the (perfect) spell.

When I lost you honey
Sometimes I think I lost my guts too
And I wish God would send me a word
Send me something I'm afraid to lose

Lying in the heat of the night
Like prisoners all our lives
And I get shivers down my spine girl
And all I wanna do is hold you tight

Baby, baby, baby
I swear I'd drive all night again just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Tonight there's fallen angels
And they're waiting for us down in the street
And tonight there's calling strangers
Hear them crying in defeat
Let them go, let them go, let them go
Do their dances of the dead
Let 'em go right ahead girl
You just dry your eyes
And c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, let's go to bed

Baby, baby, baby
I swear I'd drive all night again just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms
Oh yeah, oh yeah

There's machines and there's fire
Baby waiting on the edge of town
They're out there for hire
But baby they can't hurt us now
Cause you've got
You've got, you've got my
My love girl
You've got my love girl

Through the wind, through the rain
The snow, the wind, the rain
You've got, you've got my my love
Oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love
You've got, you've got my love
Oh girl you've got my love

Heart and soul
Heart and soul
Heart and soul
Heart

Don't worry darlin', tonight
And don't cry now
Baby, don't cry now
Oh don't cry now
Oh don't cry now
Just dry your eyes, little baby
Hey, dry your eyes
Baby, I'd drive all night
I swear I'd drive all night

Through the wind, through the rain
Through the snow, through the rain
Through the wind, through the snow, through the rain
I swear I'd drive all night
I swear I'll drive all night
Through the wind, through the rain
Through the snow, through the rain
Through the wind, through the rain

The sky is starlit and the time is right
And still you're tellin' me you have to go
Before you leave, there's something you should know
Yeah, somethin' you should know babe

I've seen you smiling in the summer sun
I've seen your long hair flyin' when you run
I've rnade my mind up that it's meant to be
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me

Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
Out where the rivers meet the sound and sea
You're high above me now, you're wild and free, ah but
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me, yeah

Some people say that love's a losin' game
You start with fire, but you lose the flame
The ashes smolder, but the warmth's soon gone
You end up cold, and lonely on your own

I'll take my chances, babe I'll risk it all
I'll win your love or I'll take the fall
I've made my mind up girl, it's meant to be
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me

Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
It's written down somewhere, it's got to be
You're high above me flyin' wild and free
Oh but someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me

Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
Out where the rivers meet the sound and sea
I feel it in my soul, it's meant to be
Oh someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me
Someday lady, you'll accomp'ny me

You will accomp'ny me (Ooh-who) yeah
(Ooh-who, you'll accomp'ny me)
I know you will accomp'ny me now, ah
(Ooh-who, you'll accomp'ny me)
Someday lady (Ooh-who)
Ah, someday lady (Ooh-who you'll accomp'ny me)
Your gonna accomp'ny me now
Your gonna walk with me an' talk with me, yeah
(Ooh-who, ooh-who you'll accomp'ny me, ooh-who)
Yeah (Ooh-who), oh
Gonna accomp'ny me (Ooh-who)
Gonna accomp'ny me, yeah (You'll accomp'ny me)

A letra:

Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone

It's been too long since we took the time
No one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you, darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over (over)
Starting over (over)

Every day, we used to make it love
Why can't we be making love nice and easy?
It's time to spread our wings and fly
Don't let another day go by, my love
It'll be just like starting over (over)
Starting over (over)

Why don't we take off alone?
Take a trip somewhere far, far away
We'll be together all alone again
Like we used to in the early days
Well, well, darling

It's been too long since we took the time
No one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you, darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over (over)
Starting over (over)

Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, mm, we have grown
Oh, although our love still is special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere

Starting over (over)
Ooh (over and over and over)
Ah! (Over), ah! (Over)
Ah! (Over), ah! (Over)
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah!

Escrita por Mark Knopfler, foi gravada em junho de 1980 e lançada em 17 de outubro de 1980 no disco Making movies, o terceiro disco da banda. Foi produzida por Mark Knopfler e Jimmy Iovine.

A letra:

She gets the sun in the daytime
Perfume in the dusk
And she comes out in the night time
With the honeysuckle musk
Because she smells just like a rose
And she tastes just like a peach
She got me walking where the wildlife goes
I'd do anything to reach her

And she was made in heaven
Heaven's in the world
Is this just expresso love
You know I'm crazy for the girl

She call me just to talk
She's my lover, she's a friend of mine
She says hey mister you wanna take a walk
In the wild west end sometime
And I get trouble with my breathing
She says boys don't know anything
But I know what I want
I want everything

Well I feel so good 'cause I feel so good
And I feel so good 'cause it feels so right
I was made to go with my girl
Like a saxophone was made to go with the night

And she can raise one eyebrow
Put her hand on my hip
And I close one eye now
Sweat on her tip
And I surrender to the fever
She love me so tender I got to believe her
Love? expresso love's alright

I don't want no sugar in it
Thank you very much
All wired up on it all fired up on it
Expresso touch
Hey maestro expresso
It's just another one just like the other one
Hey maestro expresso
Is this another one just like the other one

A letra:

All aboard! Ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaa!
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay...

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love and forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Life's a bitter shame

I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Let's go!

I've listened to preachers, I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane

I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words, yeah, yeah!

Heirs of a Cold War, that's what we've become
Inheriting troubles, I'm mentally numb
Crazy, I just cannot bear
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame?

I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
