Escrita por Ian Tyson, da dupla canadense Ian and Sylvia. Foi gravada inicialmente por eles, mas a nossa versão no entanto é a de Neil Young. Foi gravada por Neil em 11 de fevereiro de 1977, no Woodland Studio, em Nashville, Tennessee e lançada no disco Comes a time, o nono da carreira dele, em 13 de outubro de 1978. Foi produzida por Neil Young, David Briggs, Ben Keith e Tim Mulligan. Neil cantou, tocou gaita e violão. Nicolette Larson fez harmonias vocais. Tim Mulligan tocou sax. Bem Keith tocou steel guitar. Karl Himmel tocou bateria. Tim Drummond tocou baixo. Spooner Oldham tocou piano. Rufus Thibodeaux tocou rabeca. A rádio CBC, em 2005, disse que os ouvintes escolheram essa canção como a melhor canção canadense de todos os tempos. É considerada o hino não oficial da província de Alberta. Foi regravada também pelos Seekers, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Marianne Faithfull, The Searchers, John Denver, The Kingston Trio, Trini Lopez, Waylon Jennings, Chad and Jeremy, Blue Rodeo, Joan Baez, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Cash, The Carter Family e Sarah McLachan, entre outros artistas.
