21 – Muddy Waters – Mannish boy (1955)

A vigésima primeira musica dessa seleção é a maravilhosa Mannish Boy, composta por Muddy Waters, Bo Didley e Mel London. Foi gravada em Chicago, em 24 de Maio de 1955, pela Chess Records.

Trata-se de uma canção resposta a I’m a Man, de Bo Didley, que por sua vez se inspirou em Hoochie Coochie Man de Muddy Waters e Willie Dixon pra fazer I’m a Man. Na gravação, Jimmy Rogers toca guitarra, Willie Dixon toca baixo e Little Walter toca gaita.

Essa gravação de Waters foi inclusa na lista das 500 maiores canções de todos os tempos da revista Rolling Stone no número 229. Muitos artistas regravaram-na, incluindo Jimmy Hendrix, Paul Butterfield, Hank Williams Jr. e Rolling Stones.

A música está presente no hoje em dia cultuado filme Risky Business, com Tom Cruise e é também tocada por Muddy Waters no famoso filme de Martin Scorcese The Last Waltz, que marca o show de despedida do grupo The Band. A música também está presente no clássico Goodfellas.
