Escrita por Bruce Springsteen, foi gravada em 1973 e lançada no segundo disco de Bruce chamado The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle em 5 de novembro de 1973. A música fala de uma Sandy e uma atmosfera deprimento que cerca o amor do cantor e da Sandy. Foi regravada pelos Hollies, pelo Air Supply e Ben E. King, entre outros artistas. Tony Blair disse que essa é uma das músicas que ele levaria pra uma ilha deserta e que a escutou muitas vezes durante o tempo que estava cortejando sua esposa Cherie Booth. Depois sairia em compacto em 8 de abril de 1974 com 1985 como Lado B. Chegou ao número 1 nos charts pop americanos e número 3 no Reino Unido. Vendeu mais de um milhão de cópias na época somente nos Estados Unidos. Chegou ao número 1 no Canadá e Nova Zelandia, número 7 na Irlanda e Holanda e número 2 na Africa do Sul. Paul falava dos Beatles...If I ever get out of here...All I need is a pint a day...Paul disse que quando começaram os Beatles, só queriam comprar um carro, bons instrumentos e então tudo se tornou tão grande, reuniões, business... ele só queria sair dali e saiu... E em uma dessas reuniões após o fim da banda, os quatro se reuniram e George Harrison disse: “If we ever get out of here”, se referindo à prisão contratual em que se encontravam...
