366 – Simon and Garfunkel – The sound of silence (1964)

Escrita por Paul Simon, foi gravada em 10 de março de 1964, e em 15 de junho de 1964 foi adicionado alguns instrumentos. Foi escrita logo após o assassinato do Presidente John Kennedy. Inicialmente foi gravada somente acustica pro primeiro disco da dupla, Wednesday, 3AM, de 1964. 

Mais tarde o produtor da gravadora chamado Tom Wilson, colocou guitarra, baixo, e tamborres, sem o conhecimento de Simon e Garfunkel e relançada em 1965 como compacto. Chegou ao número 1 no ano novo de 1966 e foi incluída no disco Sounds of silence, de 1966. 

Era chamada The sounds of silence nos primeiros anos, mas depois virou de The sound of silence, no singular. Foi o primeiro grande sucesso da dupla e ficou tambem famosa por entrar na trilha sonora do filme The Graduate, com Dustin Hoffman, de 1968. 

Além de número 1 nos Estados Unidos, foi tambem número 1 na Alemanha, número 3 na Austria, 11 na Belgica e Holanda e 94 na Suíça.

365 – Gerry and The Pacemakers – Ferry cross the Mersey (1964)

Escrita por Gerry Marsden, foi gravada em 27 de maio de 1964 nos Studios Abbey Road em Londres e teve George Martin como produtor. Foi lançada no Lado A de um compacto que tinha You, you, you como Lado B, em dezembro de 1964.

Foi um hit tanto no Reino Unido quanto nos Estados Unidos. Chegou ao número 6 nos Estados Unidos e número 8 no Reino Unido. O Mersey da canção é referencia ao River Mersey, no nordeste da Inglaterra, um rio que vai até o Mar Irlandês, em Liverpool.   

O “Cross” não é uma contração de Across, mas um imperativo, tipo dizendo, Ferry, atravesse o Mersey!! O mersey Ferry vai de Liverpool à Birkenhead e Seacombe.

Em Maio de 1989, uma versao de caridade de Ferry cross the mersey foi lançada em ajuda aos desastre de Hillsborough, onde 95 fãs de Liverpool morreram. Foi gravada por artistas de Liverpool, incluindo Paul McCartney e Gerry Marsden. Essa regravação ficou em primeiro lugar nos charts britanicos por tres semanas consecutivas em 1989. Foi tambem número 5 na Alemanha, 1 na Irlanda e 4 na Noruega.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood gravou uma versao dessa canção em 1983. Burton Cummings gravou sua versão ao vivo em 1996. Em 2003 foi a vez de Pat Metheny fazer uma versão instrumental.

364 – The Beatles – Every little thing (1964)

Escrita por Paul McCartney mas creditada à Lennon/McCartney, foi gravada em 29 e 30 de setembro de 1964 e lançada em 4 de dezembro de 1964 no disco Beatles for Sale. Foi escrita por Paul no quarto onde morava na casa da namorada Jane Asher. Ele queria que fosse lançada em compacto, mas não conseguiu. 

É um dos raros casos onde quem compôs não fez os vocais principais. John que cantou. É tambem uma das primeiras músicas onde os Beatles acrescentaram instrumentos exoticos. Ringo tocou Timpanos.

A música tem profundidade emocional e com um refrao contagioso. Paul tocou baixo, piano e fez os backing vocals. John cantou os vocais principais, guitarra solo de doze cordas e violoes. George Harrison tocou violoes e guitarra ritmica. Ringo ocou bateria e timpanos. 

O Yes a regravou em 1969. Tocaram essa canção ao vivo muitas vezes. Lou Ann Barton gravou em 1986, Peter Lipa em 2003 e Martin Gordon em 2004.

Foi gravada pelos Zombies e lançada no Lado B em um compacto que tinha She’s not there no lado A. 

A letra fala de um cara que diz pergunta à garota se ela precisa de alguma razão ainda pra ficar com ele e a resposta é sempre que ela faz muito bem à ele. E ele acrescenta que não tem que justificar porque ele se sente tão bem.

362 – Chuck Berry – Nadine (1964)

Escrita por Chuck Berry, foi gravada em Novembro de 1963, no Chess Studios, em Chicago e lançada em Fevereiro de 1964, em um compacto que tinha O Rangutang como Lado B. Foi a primeira música que Berry lançou depois que saiu da cadeia em Outubro de 1963. 

Berry havia sido preso em Fevereiro de 1962 e ficou por lá até Outubro de 1963. No mesmo dia que gravou Nadine, ele gravou You never can tell. É bem parecida com seu primeiro hit de 1955, Maybellene.

Chegou ao numero 23 nos charts pop americanos, numero 7 nos charts de R&B e numero 27 nos charts britanicos. 

Foi regravada por Waylon Jennings, Dion, Dire Straits, Motorhead, entre outros.
