318 – The Zombies – She’s not there (1964)

Escrita por Rod Argent, fez parte do compacto de estréia dos Zombies. Esse compacto foi lançado em 24 de julho de 1964 e tinha You make me feel so good como Lado B. Chegou ao número 12 dos charts britanicos. Chegou ao número 2 nos charts pop americanos, assim como no Canada. É a música de número 287 da lista das 500 maiores canções de todos os tempos da Rolling Stone Magazine. 

 

Rod Argent escreveu a letra de She’s not there a partir de um título de uma música de John Lee Hooker chamada No one told me. Esse titulo se tornou a frase de abertura de She’s not there. Um dos pontos mais marcantes da música é justamente um piano elétrico tocado por Rod Argent. Era um Hohner Pianet. 

O narrador fala insatisfeito sobre uma mulher que não é muito confiável. Ele reclama dos amigos que não o avisaram sobre essa mulher. Mas a real inspiração pra música foi Patricia, a noiva dele que semanas antes tinha desistido de casar com ele. 

Santana fez uma regracao de She’s not there em 1977, no album Moonflower. Chegou ao numero 11 na Gra-Bretanha e 21 no Canadá. Muitos outros artistas de menor expressão regravaram essa cancão, assim como artistas em outras línguas.
