fevereiro e 6 de março de 1967 e lançada no disco de mesmo nome em
26 de maio de 1967. Aparece duas vezes no álbum. Uma como abertura
(que vem a ser essa) e outra como reprise. A primeira tem como
sequencia With a little help from my friends e a reprise da sequencia
à A day in the life.
Em novembro
de 1966, voltando pra Inglaterra de avião depois de um feriado, Paul
pensou num álbum inteiro que um papel seria interpretado por eles.
Eles seriam a Lonely Hearts Club Band. O assistente dos Beatles Mal
Evans perguntou o que significava as letras S e P nos depositos na
bandeja do avião. Eram Salt and Pepper. Por isso virou Sgt. Peppers.
Paul tocou
guitarra ritimica, baixo, guitarra solo e cantou. John fez Backing
vocals. George harrison fez backing vocals e tocou guitarra solo e
ritmica. Ringo tocou bateria. George Martin tocou órgão. Neill
Sanders, james Buck, Tony Randell e John Burden tocaram French Horns.
Tres dias
depois de lançada, Jimmy Hendrix tocou-a ao vivo no Saville Theatre,
na Shaftsbury Avenue, com Paul McCarytney e George Harrison na
platéia. Foi regravada tambem por Bryan Adams e muitos outros
artistas.
