1964 e lançada em 4 de dezembro de 1964 no disco Beatles for Sale. Estava sendo
considerada pra ser lançada em compacto simples, até Lennon escrever I feel
fine.
Apesar da
música falar de uma rejeição romantica, I’m a loser é uam das primeiras
composições dos Beatles que vai além do amor juvenil, incluindo a hipocrisia de
manter uma cara feliz quando seu mundo está caindo.
Paul disse
que acha que I’m a loser é como um pedido de ajuda de John. Que foi de uma
coragem sem tamanho escrever uma música assim.
John disse

Janeiro de 1964 nos Studios EMI, e lançada por Peter and Gordon em 28 de
fevereiro de 1964, em um compacto que trazia If I were you como lado B.
A onda de
sucesso dos Beatles era enorme. Chegou ao número 1 no Reino Unido em abril do
mesmo ano. Em junho de 1964, A world without love chegou ao numero 1 nos
Estados Unidos.
Essa é uma
das duas canções de Lennon/McCartney que chegaram ao número 1 nos Estados
Unidos com um artista que não era os Beatles. A outra foi Lucy in the sky with diamonds, numa
gravação de Elton John.
Bad to me,
que John Lennon escreveu e deu pra Billy Kramer em 1963 chegou ao numero 1 no
Reino Unido, mas nao repetiu o feito nos Estados Unidos. Esta canção foi uma
das sete que chegou ao numero 1 nos Estados Unidos dos mesmos compositores no
prazo de um ano, um recorde que até hoje nunca foi quebrado.

world without love é uma das 500 canções que deram forma ao Rock and Roll, do
Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Uma
versao das Supremes chegou ao Top10 em países do sul da Asia, como Hong Kong e
as Filipinas. Del Shannon tambem gravou uma versao em 1964.
Bobby
Rydell lançou uma versão em maio de 1964, chegando ao número 50 nos charts pop
americanos. McCartney pensou que a canção era boa o suficiente pros Beatles. Ofereceu
pra Billy J. Kramer antes, mas ele a rejeitou.
Paul
escreveu essa canção quando tinha 16 anos. Quando ele se mudou pra casa da
namorada Jane Asher em Londres em 1963, ele dividia o quarto com o irmão dela,
Peter Asher, então ele ofereceu a canção pra ele, que tinha uma dupla chamada
Peter and Gordon, com Gordon Waller.
A canção
nunca foi lançada pelos Beatles e a única gravação feita por um Beatle foi a
demo original de Paul, que hoje em dia está em posse de Peter Asher. Em janeiro
de 2013, essa demo foi colocada no Youtube, com apenas 30 segundos, mas dá pra
ter uma idéia das origens da música.
