Escrita pela constante dupla compositora dos Everly Brothers, Felice e Bryant Boudleaux, trata-se de outro sucesso dos irmãos.

A letra conta a história de um cara que tava com o casamento marcado, mas acaba fazendo uma merda e sendo preso. Então a música é basicamente ele pedindo pra alguém levar um recado pra Mary, que ela podia arranjar outro e ser feliz, mas que não contassem a ela o verdadeiro motivo dele não poder casar, isto é, que ele está preso.

Bob Dylan fez uma regravação dessa canção em 1969.

Escrita por Sid Wayne e Bix Reichner, foi gravada por Elvis em 10 de junho de 1958 em Nashville, Tennessee, por Elvis Presley, mas só foi lançada em 10 de março de 1959. 

Teve como Lado B no compacto simples que foi lançada pela RCA a canção (Now and then there’s) A fool such as I, também presente na nossa lista.

A canção chegou ao número 4 dos charts pop americanos.

180 – Santo and Johnny – Sleep walk (1959)

Escrita pelos irmãos Santo e Johnny Farina, esta peça instrumental foi lançada em 1959. Foi gravada em Manhattan, NYC. Essa canção entrou pros charts pop americanos em 17 de agosto de 1959 e chegou a primeira posição em 21 de setembro, ficando no topo desse chart por 2 semanas. É um fenômeno, tratando-se de uma canção apenas instrumental.

Chegou também ao número 4 nos charts de R&B. Foi a ultima musica instrumental a chegar no número 1 dos charts pop dos anos 1950s e deu a dupla um disco de ouro.

Al Kooper fez uma regravação dessa canção, tocando a parte da guitarra num sintetizador. Os Shadows também fizeram a sua regravação. Les Paul, o famoso guitarrista também regravou-a. The Ventures, Chet Atkins, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani e Santana também fizeram suas regravações de Sleep walk.

179 – Neil Sedaka – Stupid cupid (1959)

Escrita por Neil Sedaka e Howard Greenfield, foi gravada primeiramente por Connie Francis e lançada em junho de 1958, pela MGM Records. A versão de Connie Francis chegou ao número 4 dos charts pop americanos.

A nossa versão escolhida é a do autor. Neil Sedaka iria gravar a canção em 1959.

A banda Queen sempre tocava Stupid Cupid nos medleys de rock and roll nos shows dos anos 1970. Wanda Jackson também gravou uma versão de Stupid Cupid.

A versão em português da música foi gravada por Celly Campelo, que chegou ao número 1 do Brasil em 1959.

Escrita por Felice Bryant and Boudleaux Bryant, foi gravada pelos Everly Brothers em 1959. Chegou ao número 22 dos charts pop americanos, numero 22 na Austrália, numero 8 no Canadá e numero 14 no Reino Unido. 

 

Fala de um rapaz que leva sua namorada pra uma festa, mas acontece uma briga feia por la e alguém acerta a pobre Jenny e ela desmaia. Alguém telefona pra policia e todos saem correndo, incluindo o gente boa do namorado dela, que a deixa pra trás. 

Jenny aparece então no jornal na manha seguinte e o jornal dizia que ela era a líder de uma gang de adolescentes. O irmão e o pai de Jenny querem pegar o rapaz que tava com ela. O rapaz então vai visita-la na cadeia e a encontra com o olho roxo e bem destruída. Ela manda o rapaz ir embora. 

Era a primeira festa que a pobre Jenny ia na vida e o primeiro encontro com esse rapaz. Não se podia achar um nome melhor pra musica. Pobre Jenny.

177 – Neil Sedaka – Cryng my heart out for you (1959)

Escrita por Neil Sedaka e Howard Greenfield, foi gravada e lançada em 1959. Esse foi o terceiro compacto simples de Neil Sedaka. O primeiro foi The Diary, depois veio I go Ape e esse. Em seguida veio o sucesso estrondoso de Oh, Carol.

Essa cancao não foi muito bem nos charts, chegando somente ao numero 111 dos charts pop americanos, mas trata-se de um classico de Sedaka.

176 – Arthur Alexander - A shot of rhythm and blues (1961)

Escrita por Terry Thompson, foi gravada por Arthur Alexander e lançada em 1961, tendo como lado B no compacto a música You better move on. Foi lançada no Reino Unido somente em 1962.

Foi regravada inúmeras vezes, sendo a primeira regravação feita por Johnny Kidd and The Pirates. Os Beatles gravaram essa canção pra BBC três vezes em 1963, com John Lennon nos vocais principais. Uma dessas gravações foi lançada no álbum Live at the BBC, de 1994.

Gerry and The Pacemakers também fizeram uma regravação dessa canção. Cilla Black, ainda em 1963, fez uma gravação dessa canção nos estúdios Abbey Road. Com essa gravação, ela ganhou um contrato com a gravadora que também tinha os Beatles, a Parlophone. Essa gravação dela você pode encontrar num álbum chamado The Abbey Road Decade: 1963-1973, álbum esse que foi lançado em 1997.

Linda Gail Lewis gravou essa canção num dueto com Van Morrison para o álbum dela chamado You win again, de 2000.

Escrita por Robert Sharp Junior e Teddy Powell, foi lançada em novembro de 1961 pela ABC Paramount tendo But on the other hand baby como sendo o Lado B. na gravação, temos o sax de David “Fat head” Newman.

A canção chegou ao numero 9 dos charts pop americanos e numero 1 nos charts de Rhythm and Blues.

Trini Lopez fez uma regravação dessa canção em 1963. Em 1987, foi a vez de Joe Cocker fazer uma regravação dessa canção, alem de colocar o nome no Álbum que lançou nesse ano. A canção foi então relançada em 1992 e chegou ao numero 17 no Reino Unido.
