Escrita por
Paul mas creditada à Lennon/McCartney, foi gravada em 9, 16 e 19 de
maio de 1966 e lançada em 5 de agosto de 1966 no disco Revolver.
Trata-se de uma canção pop barroca, sobre o fim de um
relacionamento. Foi uma das canções mais maduras de Paul até
aquele momento. Ela tem uma corneta francesa que faz um solo
magnifico, tocado por Alan Civil. John Lennon disse que é uma das
favoritas dele de Paul.
Paul disse
que escreveu For no one no banheiro de um resort de esqui nos Alpes
Suíços, enquanto estava de férias com sua namorada, Jane Asher.
Paul disse que foi feita após outra discussão com sua Jane. No
final acaba dizendo: “A love that should have lasted years”. Ou
seja, “um amor que poderia ter durado muitos anos”.
John Lennon
e George Harrison não participaram da canção. Paul cantou, tocou
baixo, piano e clavicord. Ringo tocou bateria, maracas e pandeiro.
Alan Civil tocou a corneta francesa. Ala Civil era o melhor tocador
de corneta de Londres. Na sessão, Paul fez Civil tocar uma nota que
estava muito além da sua capacidade. Civil fez ali a melhor
performance da sua vida. Disse que foi uma nota entre Si Bemol e Si.
Muito dificil de afinar o instrumento pra se conseguir isso.
