Chegou ao
número 1 no Reino Unido e número 2 nos Estados Unidos, sendo a
melhor canção cantada por Ringo em um chart americano. Se
transformou em um desenho animado de mesmo nome em 1968.
Paul disse
que a fez pensando em Ringo, enquanto morava na casa dos pais da
noiva Jane Asher. Pensou num marinheiro velho contando às crianças
onde ele vivia.

a tocou bateria. Paul tocou baixo, gritou e fez backing vocals. John
tocou violão, gritou e fez backing vocals. George Harrison tocou
pandeiro e fez backing vocals. Mal Evand tocou bumbo e fez backing

Em 1984, um
escultura de um submarino amarelo foi construída e colocada num
festival em Liverpool. Em 2005, foi colocada no aeroporto
internacional John Lennon em Liverpool.
